Behavioral Q & A
Hi!
My name is Sarah and I have 16 month pittie mix named Ellie. This past weekend, Ellie and I have been working on recalls in wide open spaces (she does great it). She was doing zoomies and I put my hand out to side to recall her. She barreled right into my right knee, hyper extending it. I have had two surgeries on that knee but I am very active and able to do all the activities I love. I’m still waiting on MRI results to see if there is any ligament damage, which if there is surgery is on the table. I know she did not mean to hurt me but now I am so nervous/scared around Ellie. My husband has been walking her and leashes her in the house between transitions ( ie getting out of the crate, coming back into the house) to limit her jumping/running.
How do I work with her to be calm when she is recalled/ be calm in the home.
I don’t want her to feel like she can’t run or be excited to see me but right now I’m having trust issues.
TIA
Sarah
